While all my titles are movie based, I will make an exception for this one! Back in the early eighties, I was an avid reader of the French comic Yoko Tsuno, a Japanese electronic engineer whose travels took me to places I never dreamt going. album number 6 took me to Vinea, light years from our planet but number 2 got me to visit the Rhine Valley near Saint Goar. I was lucky to have a summer convention close by and took a day to visit this highly symbolic location. If you read Yoko Tsuno, you’ve been there too, if not follow me…

Roger Leloup wrote and draw this comic in 1973, The “burg Katz” has probably not changed much since.

While the original drawing simulates a low angle shot, this one is taken with a telephoto from the Lorelei
Like in the comic, a ferry still carries cars and passengers between Sankt Goar and Sankt Goashausen

We had plans to use the very same transportation as Yoko, Vic and Pol… except in the other way!

the ship design has clearly evolved but I was glad thar the service remained!

The eponymous monstruous organ of the comic has been inspired by the one found in the Sank Goar Stiftskirche. We did not get a chance (nor time) to visit the church but it appears on both the book and my album!

The author Roger Leloup really like the Rhine valley for good reasons, It’s beautiful and I could not recommend enough to seize the opportunity if you have it!
One of the last panels in the book shows our heroes on the Rhine to conclude de story.

I’ll use the same to close that post and wish you safe and rich travels
